Whose signature is this? I found it on a certain image on a certain imageboard, and reverse-Google Image Searching said image only pulled up those blatant art theft art aggregation sites with increasingly desperate names like best-hard-gay-hot-lovely-gorgeous-hentai.com or whatnot, so finding proper artist attribution hasn't been the easiest thing in the world. (I'm amazed they didn't try to shop out the signature, honestly, though I guess they were just relying on my inability to decipher it.)

People might be more apt to recognize the artist from their art than a signature in a language that I think probably very few of us read...

I think it's safe to say that the type of people who know you well enough will be able to handle such an image. :b

It's not even furry, though, unless you count the ears. (It's Inuyasha) Maybe some people here would find that off-putting, or something? I don't know.

But fiiiiiine. http://digizona.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=61242&d=1325640153 NSFW :C

Looking around, I've found a few more pictures by the same artist (same art style, solo male hentai type shot, and that signature) such as http://38.72.77.50/gay-hentai-art.com/scj/thumbs/galleries/5/020/3_61.jpg NSFW, but nothing in anything ... real; they're all just shuffled at random into the never-ending spiral of aggregator hentai galleries that make everything a stealth link to other suspiciously-identical-looking aggregator hentai galleries.

Alright, I'll see what I can scrounge up for ya. (Found the same image on Gelbooru after about 10 seconds, but sadly the source wasn't listed. :[ )

AH! Didn't get anywhere with the first pic, but that 2nd one you provided hit paydirt! The artist goes by Gouryu.

That would make sense, since 剛龍 can be read as /gōryū/, though I was under the vague impression that that form of the latter character was unusual in Japanese despite being standard in Chinese. (I'm assuming it's Japanese due to the link with the pronunciation.)

(“manly dragon”, I expect, in context.)

Mighty Dragon, actually, but close enough. XP

That's why I emphasized the “in context” part. :-P

You know, I was really hoping you would come along and that you would be able to read that. It was quite frustrating to have a very clear image of the glyphs right there, and want to just Google 剛龍, but run into the obstacle of getting a text version rather than that picture of them. Trying to find them in a Unicode character set would have taken forever since there are like eight zillion characters (especially since I wasn't even 100% sure whether it was Chinese or Japanese or what!) and tools like http://www.chinese-tools.com/tools/mouse.html and http://kanji.sljfaq.org/ got me absolutely nowhere. Just the fact that you typed 剛龍 means I have access to those characters now (even if I just have to copy/paste from you to get them) which I really didn't before, so thank you so much for that.

And hey, just as I was hoping would happen, searching for that came across even more results! I found a personal website, which itself has links to all the artist's professional galleries (DLSite, etc.)

Edit: I went with that particular Bulbasaur icon for this comment just because it's cute and affectionate-looking, so I thought it'd be nice for a "thank you so much :D"-type reply. I completely forgot about the Japanese characters there, which I guess serendipitously makes it even more appropriate. I have no idea what they say, but given the context (I've seen the, er, comic from which it comes) it's probably some sort of generic swooning (Bulbasaur is looking at a photo of her crush in that panel, if memory serves.)

It's not like I didn't use a dictionary search too! (Well, for the first one. The second is common enough in sporadic contexts and has a distinctive enough shape that it's readily recognizable.) Multi-radical search in Android WWWJDIC, to be precise—I wasn't confident enough inferring the stroke order to make the handwritten form work, though the latter is much easier with a capacitive stylus than with a mouse. Then pronunciation plus Emacs Japanese input mode (technically I didn't need the dictionary search for that since xaq had already given a romanization, but I wanted to get a rough translation as well).

And the Chinese and Japanese uses of Han characters are actually unified in Unicode, which is why I tend to make sure to use the lang attribute in HTML for that more than for other languages. (There was a whole political wrangle about this earlier in the standard's development, as one might expect. Also technically they can be used in Korean (thus “CJK Unified Ideographs”), but hanja are essentially gone in modern Korean if I recall correctly.)
