Last week, I did part 1 of Family Dog on my LiveStream channel, with the primary goal of "stream something as a test to work out technical/audio/etc. issues before HolidayStar comes out." Today, I was going to do part 2. I still might, depending on how things go. However, I've been preempted by some news:

The HolidayStar demo is out.

Oops.

As I said in my comment on Raven's announcement, I think I'm actually going to avoid the demo; I want to wait until the full version.

However, those plans we had to work out some sort of multi-host show setup to be ready in time for the HolidayStar release? Let's just say that those just got bumped up a bit. My current plan is to do a runthrough of Anghel's otome route in Hatoful (as it's the only non-BBL route that features the entire cast) just as soon as we can get the crew together and pick a service to try. As in, anywhere from tonight to right now depending on when everyone checks in and someone finds a service.

Let's do this. It's coo time, guys. (I mean go, I totally said go.)

Well, okay, what are our options?

- Ustream/Livestream/JustinTV (is there a meaningful difference between these? Bearing in mind that capture resolution IS a meaningful difference if we're going to be reading text!)
- join.me (this one has a great picture, but I've heard that it doesn't support sound; but if everyone watching live is going to be in the skype call anyway, maybe that doesn't matter?)
- Skype itself (if we're all going to be in a call ANYWAY, maybe just forgo the live streaming and upload the captured result at the end?)
- direct telepathic connection via Anghel (I'm not convinced this whole thing WASN'T a mass hallucination already)

Livestream can't do a conference call, which was one of the major things I wanted. The whole reason I wanted to do this as a big "all the hosts get together and do this simultaneously with various people voicing various characters and everything" deal was because of how much fun I had with feralmuse guest week in my Hatoful stream. I have no idea whether Ustream/JustinTV have a similar inability to handle this; I've never tried them.

Never tried join.me; if it has everything I want it to have (conference call + screen sharing so at least one person can have the video and everyone else can see it + ability to capture/record the whole thing) then sure, why not. Does it?

Skype plus "everyone launch your copy and play along locally, and click this option when we tell you to click it" could work if we can record the conference call, and at least one person has local A/V capture (Fraps or something I guess?) and is willing and able to splice it together with the conference call when we're all done. Sounds like a lot of work to me, but at least theoretically possible if nothing else works out, maybe?

Obviously tripping out on Anghel Dust and doing it telepathically is the best option of the four.

join.me was the one I had you try with me a month ago or so... it does allegedly support sound, though our issue was that we couldn't get it to... work. Screen sharing (and control sharing) is its main feature - I use it at work - but I don't think I provides capture capabilities.

Er -- I was assuming that for ALL of these options, we would all be on Skype for the sake of getting all our voices into one place. I don't know of any other options for that (other than MSN or something else functionally identical to Skype...)

And, in the case of relying completely on Skype, I was assuming the use of a "video capture acting as a webcam" being the source of a one-way video call with everyone else just on voice call.

It is worth pointing out that (ugh) Google+ has a group video chat feature that streams (and saves) directly onto Youtube, but I'm not sure if that works with some of the participants only offering voice.... although I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world for there to be some distracting human faces at the bottom of the screen below the pigeoning? (And I guess I should confirm whether you can voice-only Google Hangout before I write it off, come to think of it.)

There's Mumble/Ventrillo, which I've used for conference call type things before... my main concern would be keeping the video that other people are seeing consistent with the one that the originator is seeing, because I know that Livestream could have delays of up to ten seconds - and this isn't a huge problem for a visual novel game, but could lead to some awkward pauses...

The Google+ one, oddly, seems like it might lead somewhere :)

It's worth looking into and would, at the very least, give me an actual reason to use my Google+ account if it actually works....

But like I said, I'm not picky! If we can make this work at all, then I don't really care how.

If worst comes to worst and splicing the audio & video together to sync up becomes our only option, I can probably handle that; the software I used to make those videos on my YT channel should work just fine.

Shoot, wait, just remembered...it has a maximum length of 15 minutes. No way in hell we'd have a session -that- short. X_x;

In any case, I'm hoping whichever of these methods we decide to go with works for a Macbook; the only mic jack on my desktop's in the back, and the cable on my headphones for it isn't long enough to plug into it without basically forcing me to spend the whole session with my face partially mashed into Sczer's motherboard.

The headset I got for Miyuki, however, works just fine for output and input, if the Rosetta Stone lessons I've been taking that it came with are any indication. :]

It's a little premature to say for sure, but so far we are actually having some fairly encouraging results with the Google+ hangouts and someone (currently davidn) just splicing everything together after the fact. More experimentation required, of course, but it's encouraging so far!

Ah, well, that's encouraging. :D Normally I reserve my Google account-based stuff for more serious matters (job searching, college stuff, etc.), but I think I can make an exception for the sake of pigeons.

We're actually on the tail end of a preliminary test in a G+ hangout deal with me, David, and Raven, and it seems to have worked fairly well so far! If you're on G+, let me add you to my friends circles and you can join in, if we're still doing it by the time you read/respond to this.

Sure thing. Just added you (amazing how few 'Teos there are on there!), Davidn, and Ravenworks to mine...I imagine I should know who a few other folks in the Hato group are on there, but honestly, I'm drawing a bit of a blank. O_o;

That's fine, I changed my mind about being the host for the next one (we are currently in the process of stopping/restarting) anyway. I think David might do it but we'll see. Just keep an eye on my/David's/Raven's pages when that plugin is installed and wait for a post from someone anyway.
