I guess I did kind of earn that one, huh.

Probably, yeah, but mostly I just wanted to see what it was like to be on the other end of that exchange given how many times I've earned it.

Truth be told, though... I don't get the joke. O.o;

It's a questionable mashup of two obscure old game references that became memetic--http://slowbeef.com/MG2/chap58.html and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGmqYg4JP08 .

Okay, "abridged" is apparently the perfect form to experience the King's Quest games in.

Depends on the game! KQ5 is arguably the most cruelly POIsonous sadistic Unwinnable By Design trap-filled game from a company whose entire reputation was built around those sorts of games.

Seriously, do you have any idea how much it's saying and how hard a game has to try to be "the hardest to beat, easiest-to-screw-yourself Sierra game?"

So yes, I recommend KQ5 abridged because it makes fun of all the ridiculous elements (of which there are many) and spares you from having to actually complete the game (which is close to impossible even with a walkthrough.)

Now something like KQ7, though, people should totally play! There's still random instant on-the-spot death everywhere every time you do something stupid, but it's probably the only Sierra game ever made that has no unwinnable stick points. I used to think I had found one, because you can complete chapter four without acquiring a flower you'll need later in chapter six, but it turns out the game just puts an extra flower for you at the start of chapter six if you don't already have the one from chapter four. And this is a Sierra game? Really?

I mean, in KQ5, not only would you have absolutely had to get the one in chapter four or else too bad, but there probably would have been at least three attempts to take it from you in chapter five, like a flower collector who will kill you if you don't give him your flower or find the trick and solve some incredibly unintuitive hidden puzzle to finesse your way out of the situation, like cobble a couple other items together into a convincing fake flower for that guy so you can keep the real one for where you really need it.

(KQ5 did things like that, you know. There's a part where you're trapped in the desert and starving and will die if you don't eat something, and you can totally eat that pie that you'll need for the yeti later. I think you can also feed the pie to the eagle when he's starving, too. Of course, if you want to win, you have to work harder to uncover the secret non-pie solutions to both of those puzzles just to save your pie for the yeti. And that's just that one example; there are others!)

Er, sorry, that kind of turned into a tangent, didn't it.

Is... that text box otherwise unmodified from the game?

Having been playing Peace Walker recently, I'm honestly wondering whether the Metal Gear series as a whole performs the impossible feat of being madder than Hatoful Boyfriend. I've spent the afternoon fighting a singing robot and then indoctrinating people into my culinary school by knocking them out, attaching balloons to them and whisking them off into the air.
