davidn has a habit of finding old notes he wrote to himself years ago and no longer having any clue whatsoever what in the world they mean or are talking about. Well, here's one for him!

I just found something very clearly and obviously in my handwriting on an index card right below some weaving notes (the weaving notes I recognize; that's not the issue.) It's rudimentary illustration of an eight-pointed asterisk (basically just lines going in the four directions and the four directions between those) with numbers at each direction. Clockwise from top:

N: 179
NE: 47
E: 196
SE: 92
S: 196 [I wrote 196 and then scribbled it out, and then changed it to] 179
SW: 47
W: 196
NW: 192

This probably has something to do with weaving, but God only knows what.

Edit: This has now been solved. Someone in the comments figured it out. You will not believe what it turned out to be. I still can't believe he actually figured it out. How do you ... how does your mind work to be able to see things like that? I have weird friends.

Looks like either SE should be 192 or NW should be 92, because then it goes in a nice repeating pattern with the opposite ends having the same number.

Beyond that, though...uhh, yeah, I have less clue about that than you do.

Unfortunately, all I can say is that what I wrote in this LJ post is accurate to what's actually on the card. It would be a lot easier to say "oops, typo" and pretend that the card matches up like that, but ... no, it really does have 192 on NW and 92 on SE.

Now, whether it's supposed to, or I somehow messed that up back when I originally made this card, who knows....

Sorry, that's what I was trying to get at.

Still a bit confused on how that batch of numbers equates to anything off a loom, though.

Those are decimal codes for CP437 characters corresponding to those rotations (slash, backslash, and the up-down and left-right box-drawing characters). Probably ZZT!

(You knew me once as premchai21. I shall deliver confirmation through another channel.)

Ahh, that makes MUCH more sense than anything loom-related. Mystery solved, I believe.

Oh my God, I remember now. You're absolutely right. It's a list of numbers for use with the #CHAR command with the | and / and - directional faces so that I could make swinging doors in Adventure of Sam without having to look those up every time. I even incorrectly described this drawing as basically an eight-pointed asterisk, leaving out the fact that it's actually hollow in the middle and thus looks like this:

 192 179 47
     \|/
196 - - 196
     /|\
  47 196 92
     179

Because I thought that detail would be too much trouble to explain without actually being relevant in any way. Oops.

So in conclusion, holy crap I can't believe you got that. And that even takes into account the fact that the original clues weren't even right (I originally wrote 192 for NW when I must have meant 92--thanks to xaq for catching that one--and I implied it was a single connected asterisk shape just now when it actually wasn't because I mistakenly thought that wasn't important.) And here I thought this was going to be unsolvable! You ... you are some sort of insane mad genius.

I just seem to have a knack for noticing patterns like that. *shrug* Helped me find a crossed wire in a Seahawk helicopter once.

"Okay, let's see here...white, blue, white, blue, white, blue, blue, whi--ah."

If you'd said in the edit that it turned out to be ZZT, I would instantly have known exactly what kind of mind it took to work that out ;)

I would have just assumed "puzzle from Myst". That's what I've taken to assuming my own unintelligible notes are - it's hardly less likely than any other explanation.
