Elite METAL Agents \m/
I'm on an Elite Beat Agents kick recently, because I'm almost done with it on hard but oh my God do the last few stages live up to that claim.

Most people should be well familiar with it by now, but just in case, it's an excessively Japanese-at-heart DS rhythm game where you are a team of secret agent male cheerleaders who help people/animals/anthropomorphic white blood cells/whatever the stage calls for solve their personal problems via the power of rock.

Anyway, it would be awesome to have a power metal version. Because I was evidently that bored, I decided to try and brainstorm what songs would be appropriate. (They'd have to be about the right length, the beat and such would have to conceivably fit with whatever stage was built around it, and in keeping in the spirit of pure Japanese mania, they'd have to be fairly upbeat and such so that their stage would be just plain fun to actually go through. EBA has YMCA in it, which is a tough act to follow on the fun factor. Anything I come up with would have to be fun enough to at least not look that lame compared to freaking YMCA.)

Here are a few I think might work:
Edguy -- King of Fools
Hammerfall -- Natural High
Helloween -- Mr. Torture
Rhapsody of Fire -- Unholy Warcry
Sonata Arctica -- Weballergy

And for the obligatory sad song (because every Ouendan/EBA-type game so far has exactly one level where it suddenly stops being hilarious and starts being a total tear-jerker...and it's always stage 12, for some reason,) I don't know for sure, but maybe Sonata Arctica -- Draw Me. The problem is that I'd need something that's slower and prettier but is still at least somewhat uplifting--EBA's choice, for example, is a love song, not a purely "I'm depressed and here's a depressing song" song, which works for the whole bitersweet heartwarming tear-jerker angle. Everything I have is either just pure depressing or is about eight minutes long, or both.

I don't want to comment on the song choices, but I think the idea of Elite Metal Agents could work very well.

It certainly makes me wonder what the actual stage for "Mr Torture" would be like.

Send me a Sign would be a good one, too.

There's a PC-based fan clone, apparently! Get to work :D

Yes, I just came back because I remembered the whole point of me originally commenting was to say that people already do do reasonably similar things with Stepmania, where any audio file can be thrown into a variety of emulated rhythm games - I'm actually surprised that there's a direct fan clone of EBA already, but that's all for the better, then.

Besides, like in so many things, power metal in Stepmania seems to be entirely represented by ludicrous Dragonforce tracks that you need twelve fingers to pass.

http://osu.ppy.sh/ yo.

I've been playing it for awhile and it's a really good port of EBA!
