Do they build it for you, or can you just choose from some buildings already in town? (Are the towns random?)

Do they REALLY not enforce gender-specific clothing? ^^ Or is that a joke ;P

Each town (which is not random) has one house for sale in it, at kind of a sliding scale of quality and price. The Imperial City has a depressing shack in the middle of the bad part of town for 2,000 gold, while Skingraad has a gigantic mansion for 25,000. With the exception of the Anvil manor I have there, they start completely bare except for a bed (or in the Imperial City shack, a bedroll. :P) Once you have the house, the local stores have "packages" for somewhere around 1,200 gold each that basically decorate one particular room or add one particular feature (a storage pack will add an empty chest and some barrels for you to stash your stuff, wall packages hang tapestries or something on the wall for decoration, etc.)

The Anvil house is...different. It's also by far the best deal in the game, if you don't mind doing some work for it. It's 5,000 gold for a manor which, as you can see, is fairly big, two stories just counting the ground floor up and with a huge, perhaps three-level basement. However, when you first get it, it's completely broken down and depressing (fallen chandelier on the ground, stuff overturned, windows broken, etc,) dark to the point where you actually need a torch just to get around the freaking house, and it just so happens to be haunted. That spawns a little quest where you track the guy who sold it to you down, get him to help you try to lift the curse, fight some ghosties, and then fight a lich boss in the basement. However, once you do that, the house magically fixes itself! From that point on, you have a fully furnished (no need to buy any packages for it) and very large, cool-looking manor for 5,000 minus whatever you can get back by selling the loot from that ghost quest. Conversely, that Imperial City shack is probably well over 5,000 by the time you furnish it, for a shack. I so freaking win. :D

As for the clothing, the shirts, pants, and robes are fairly unisex. There are "Outfits" which are basically like a robe and count as a shirt and pants at the same time, and those vary a little depending on gender. I'm wearing a Red Velvet Outfit in that picture. If a female wears an Outfit, it usually looks like a full-length gown. If a male wears an Outfit, it...uh...apparently looks like a skirt instead. I guess that's a little more masculine..? :P

Oddly enough, I own a shirt/tunic about like that. It's made of Chinese silk, it's around knee-length, and has full-length sleeves. It's also bright red. I generally wear a black doublet over it.

(It's for SCA-stuffs.)
